第1部 10.電車に乗る
ああ，けさも人が多いなあ。
It's crowded this morning, too.
東京にはよくもこんなにおおぜいの人間が住んでいるものだ。
It's amazing that so many people can live in Tokyo.
電車もどうせ超満員なのだろう，きっと。
No doubt the train will be packed, too.
うまく乗れればいいが。

さあ，電車が入ってくるぞ。
Here comes the train.

相変わらず押し合いへし合いだ。
There's pushing and shoving as usual.
わーっ，こりゃかなわない。
Wow! This is too much.
なんとかして通路のまん中あたりへ行こう。
Somehow I have to get to the middle of the aisle.
ああ，やっと楽になった。
I can finally relax.
ここなら落ち着いて立っていられるぞ。
This is a good spot to stand.
それにしても車内は蒸し暑いなあ。
It's really hot and sticky in here.
全身，汗びっしょりだ。
I'm sweating all over.
だれか窓をあけないかな。
I wish someone would open a window.
ほう，一人，窓をあけたぞ。気がきいてるなあ。
One person with sense has just opened a window.
ああ，いい風が吹き込んでくる。
That breeze feels good.
ぼくは人一倍暑がり屋だから，困るんだ。
Hot weather really gets to me.
夏が思いやられるなあ。
I really dread the summer.
