さあ，これで予定記事の件も，かたがつく。
That takes care of all the scheduled articles.

I wonder what time it is?
おや，もう11時を過ぎたぞ。
Oh, it's already past eleven.
時間がたつのは早いなあ。
Time really goes by quickly.
急いで次々と仕事を片づけなくちゃ。
I've got to hurry and finish up the next piece of business.
そうだ。「東京の銀座」と題する１ページものの短い随筆を書くのを忘れていた。
That's right. I forgot all about writing the one page essay on "Tokyo's Ginza."
よし，それにとりかかろう。
I guess I'll start on it now.
これは広報にうるおいをつけるためのものだから，やわらかい文体にするほうがいいな。
This is supposed to soften the effect of the ad so I should use a more colloquial style of writing.
ぼくはまだ東京をよく知らないんだが，なんとかして仕上げなくちゃいけないな。
I still don't know Tokyo that well, but I've got to finish this somehow.
どんなふうに書いたらいいかなあ。
I wonder how I should write this.
そうだ，昼の銀座と夜の銀座に分けよう。
I know. I'll divide this piece into Ginza after dark and Ginza during the day.
昼の銀座は表通りの商店街で，夜の銀座は西と東の裏通りにある飲み屋街だ。
The section on Ginza during the day will focus on the busy storefront shopping street. Ginza after dark will be about the tavern and bar lined back streets of East and West Ginza.
それを書けばいいんだ。
That would be a good way to write the article.
なかなか，むずかしいなあ。
This is difficult.
都市や人間というのは書きにくいもんだ。
Cities and people are not easy subjects to write about.
でも東京は明らかにニューヨークやロンドンとは違う。
But Tokyo is clearly quite different from New York or London.
言ってみれば西洋のまねをした東洋の都市なのだ。
You could say it's an eastern imitation of western city.
銀座もニューヨークのブロードウェイとはまるで違う。
The Ginza is so completely different from Broadway in New York.
やはり日本的な繁華街だ。
It's a lively shopping street with a unique Japanese touch.
表通りはきれいだが，裏通りはきたないんだからなあ。
The Ginza is clean and attractive, but the back streets are dirty and rundown.
やはり西洋的な表面よりも，東洋的な裏面を強調するほうがいいだろうな。
It would be better to stress the Oriental back streets rather than the western style main streets.
おや，12時までにあと20分か。
Only twenty minutes to twelve.
さあ，急ごう。
Got to hurry.
おっと，この文章はまずい。
This wording isn't good.
この部分は書き直そう。
I'd better rewrite this part.
消しゴムはどこへ行ったかな。
Now where did the eraser go?
あった。
Found it.
このプラスチック消しゴムはよく消えるんだ。
This plastic eraser really does the job.
少々きたなくなっちゃったが，まあいいや。
It's a little dirty.
おや？ シンが出ないぞ。
Oh, well. The lead isn't coming out.
詰まったのかな。
I wonder if it's stuck.
このシャープペンはあまりよくないな。
This pencil isn't very good.
中をあけてみよう。
Let's open it up and have a look.
やはり，詰まってらあ。
I thought so - it's stuck.
よし，直った。
Fixed it.
こんどはいいぞ。
Now it's working.
ああ，もう昼だ。
Lunchtime.
仕事のつづきは昼からだ。
Guess I'll quit for now and finish this after lunch.
