第1部 07.身支度
さあ支度にかかるか。
Okay, now to get ready.
きょうはどの服にしようかな。
I wonder what I should wear today.
もう春だから，この化繊の青い服を着るか。
It's already spring, so maybe I'll wear this blue outfit made from synthetic material.
そうすると，シャツもこの薄青のやつにしよう。グレーのシャツでは似合わないものな。
In that case, I guess I'll wear this light blue shirt because the gray one won't match.
ネクタイはこの赤の斜め筋の入ったのがいいだろうな。これならよく似合うぞ。
The red tie with the diagonal stripes will match well.
きょうはあったかい日だから，長いアンダーウエアは不要だ。
It's warm today, so I won't need my long underwear.
下着は半そでシャツにパンツだけでいいだろう。
A short sleeved undershirt and shorts will probably do just fine.
さあ，早くしないと会社に遅れるぞ。
I'd better hurry or I'll be late for work.
急げ，急げ。
Hurry up, hurry up.
この服も古びて，少し小さくなったなあ。
These clothes are getting old and a little tight, too.
ぼくが太ってきたんだな。
I guess I'm putting on weight.
そろそろ新しい春物の服を買うかな。
It's about time to buy some new spring clothes.
カフリンクスも別なものに取り替えることにするか。
I think I'll change my cuff links, too.
ロサンゼルスで買った，あの銀のカフリンクスにしよう。
How about those silver ones I bought in Los Angeles?

たしかにこの中に入れておいたのに。
I was sure I put them in here.

They should be in the desk in the study.

それに時計，財布，定期券，ハンカチ，ドアのキー，ちり紙──みんなそろっているな。

かばんはここにある──と。中身はいつものとおりだ。
Here's my briefcase with everything inside just as it always is.
このかばんも型がくずれたな。
This briefcase is losing its shape, too.

服を着かえたんだから，持ち物を忘れないように身につけなくちゃ。
Now that I've changed clothes, I'd better be careful not to forget anything.

I'll put it in my briefcase.

I'd better get going.
