Hello. Mr.Mitsuda?

This is Brown from Advertising.

I wonder if I could see you for a minute... Thank you.

I'll be right there.

I'm going down to Exports, Section 2 for a little while.

I'll be back in 15 or 20 minutes.

Well, Mr.Mitsuda. How are you?

Hello there.

Have a seat.

I came to you about a passage that I just don't understand.

I wonder if you could help me.

What is it?

What does this part mean?

This is simple.

This means that in spite of influence from foreign countries, Japan has retained the traditional spirit of "wabi" and "sabi."

What does this "wabi" and "sabi" mean?

Well, it's a little hard to explain.

You might say "wabi" is a taste for the simple and quiet and "sabi" would be elegant simplicity.

Or to put it a little differently, refinement.

In any case, I believe "wabi" and "sabi" can best be explained as elegance and quiet simplicity.

Well, although these traditions have remained with us to some extent, Japanese have changed a bit since the end of the war.

Young people, in particular, probably don't even know the meaning of "wabi" and "sabi" anymore.

I see.

In other words, these are all things of the past.

I understand you. Thank you very much.
