I wonder what to order.

 

昼だから軽いものでいいんだ。
I'm only having lunch so something light would probably be best.

I'll take this one.

 

Aランチを一つ。
One A lunch, please.

 

それにコーヒーも。
And a cup of coffee, too.

 

合計で850円ですから,150円のおつりです。
That'll be 850 yen in all, so here's 150 yen change, sir.

Thank you very much.

 

ああ,やっぱり込んでるなあ。
Just as I thought. It's crowded.

 

どこかにあいた席はないかなあ。
Isn't there an open seat somewhere?

 

あ,あそこがあいているぞ。
There's one over there.

 

あそこへすわろう。
That's where I'll sit.

 

早く食事を出してくれないと,時間がなくなるぞ。
If they don't hurry with my order, I won't have any time left.

 

おや,もう12時20分だ。
It's already 12:20.

 

ここを40分に出ないと,銀座4丁目のサロンに寄れないな。
If I don't leave at 12:40, I can't stop by the salon at Ginza 4 chome.

 

あ,来た,来た。
Here it comes.

 

よし,急いで食べよう。
Got to eat in a hurry.

 

腹が減っているから,おいしいや。
It tastes good because I'm so hungry.

 

こんなランチは日本独特のものだなあ。アメリカにはないんだから――。
This kind of lunch is unique to Japan, There's nothing like this in the States.

 

このハンバーグはやわらかくていい。
This hamburger is good and tender.

 

料理や味ということになると,やはり日本のほうがいちばんいいな。
As far as cooking and seasoning go, the Japanese are the best.

 

だいいち,日本の料理はすごくバラエティーに富んでいるんだ。
In the first place, Japan has such a variety of dishes.

 

材料が豊富なんだな。
There are so many different ingredients.

 

おや,あの女性はフォークの裏側にライスをのせて食べているぞ。
Hey, that girl is putting rice on the back of her fork.

 

そういえば,日本人はみなそうするようだな。
All Japanese eat that way.

 

おかしな食べ方だ。
It's a strange way of eating.

 

あたりまえにフォークですくって食べればよいのに。
If they'd only scoop their food up with a fork in the obvious way, it'd be much better.

 

それに多くの日本人は,食事のときに口の音をペチャペチャさせて食べるんだ。
Besides that, Japanese make so much noise when they eat.

 

確かにそうだ。
No doubt about it.

 

あの悪習は断然やめるべきだ。
Japanese must get rid of that awful habit.

 

しかもたいていの日本のレストランには,テーブルに紙ナプキンがおいてない。
Besides that, most Japanese restaurants don't have paper napkins on the table.

 

あれでは口もふけない。
You can't even wipe your mouth.

 

日本の生活文化もまだまだというところか――。
Japanese culture still has a long way to go.

 

しかし,外国人にもずいぶんマナーの悪いのがいるから,どっちもどっちだろう。
But then, there are quite a few foreigners with bad manners, so I guess the same can be said for both.

 

おっと,時間がなくなるぞ。
Whoops! Almost out of time.

 

さあ行こう。
I've got to go.

よし,銀座へ出よう。
Now to go to the Ginza.
