ああ，いい写真展だった。

アメリカ人では見られない服装だが――。
It's something you would never see in the U.S.
しかし，この銀座で見かける日本人は，みなりっぱな服装をしているなあ。
All the Japanese here on the Ginza are dressed so well.
ニューヨークなどと比較にならない。
It doesn't even compare with New York.
日本は確かに裕福な国だ。
Japan is definitely a rich country.
だが住宅事情は必ずしもよくないな。
But the housing situation isn't always that good.
いまだにおおぜいの人がタタミ敷の部屋で暮らしているというのは，伝統のせいもあるのだろう。
The fact that even now so many people are living in tatami-mat rooms must be partly due to tradition.
おおぜいの人がきょうも生きて活動し，そして明日になり，明後日になる――。
So many people are alive today. And will be tomorrow, and the day after…
今から100年後に，この人の群れは地上から姿を消しているだろうし，銀座の街の様子も変わっているのだろう。
100 years from now this flock of people will have disappeared from this earth and the Ginza will have changed as well.
人間とは何なのか。

「かぐや三銃士」だって? 喜劇だな。

そういえば，久しぶりに映画を見たいな。
That reminds me. It's been a long time since I've seen a movie.
いま東京では "Close Enconters of the Third Kind" を「未知との遭遇」と題してやっていて，どえらい評判のようだが，あまり気乗りがしないな。
Right now "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" is playing in Tokyo under the title, "Michi tono Sogu." It's getting rave reviews, but I just don't see what all the fuss is about.
ＵＦＯに関心はあるんだが，しょせん映画は作り物だからな。
I'm interested in UFOs, but after all, movies are only fiction.
それよりも，いつかロサンゼルスで見たジョン・スタインベック原作の，アメリカ・メキシコ合作映画 "The Pearl" をもう一度見たいな。
More than that, I'd rather see the joint American and Mexican film of John Steinbeck's "The Pearl" that I saw in Los Angeles before.
古い映画だが，すばらしい作品だった。
It may be an old movie, but it's one of the best.
おっと，信号が青に変わったぞ。
The light just changed.
さあ，急ごう。

いろんな種類の弁当を売っているんだな。
There are many kinds of box lunches.
この弁当も全く日本的だな。
