自律トレーニングを実行すること

このことに気づいたとき、私は忍耐の法則を応用して自律トレーニングを始めました。
When I realized this, I began to school myself by utilizing the law of patience.

最初は私の感覚器官がこの法則を理解しなくても、トレーニングによって結局は忍耐の法則に従うことが私にわかっていました。
Even though at first my senses did not understand this law, I knew through discipline they would eventually obey.

そして、各感覚器官はより高次な法則に従属していることを認めるという事実そのものによって、それらは各自の働きの背後にひそむ目的や、結果の奥にひそむ”因（創造主）”をやがては理解するにちがいありません。
And by the very fact of acknowledging that they were subject to a higher law, they would in time understand the purpose behind each act; the Cause, (or Creator) behind effect.

したがって、私の最初の段階は、私の感覚器官たちの反応を”因”と調和するように調整し、これを理解させることでした。
Therefore, my first step must be to coordinate my sense reactions to a unity with, and understanding of - Cause.

一例としてバイオリンをあげてみましょう。
To use the violin as an example:

演奏者はこの楽器が生み出すことのできる微妙なハーモニーを奏でる前に、バイオリンの四つの絃をきわめて正確に調絃する必要があることはだれも知っています。
we all know the four strings of a violin must be tuned with delicate precision before the musician is able to bring forth the subtile harmonies that this instrument is capable of producing.

各絃のピッチは他の三つの絃にたいして完全に合っていなければなりません。
The pitch of each string must harmonize perfectly with the other three.

人間の四つの感覚器官は、このバイオリンの四つの絃にたとえることができます。
The four senses of man may be compared with the four strings of the violin;

人間の生命の真の目的を遂行するためには、これらの感覚器官が一つの統一体として働くように調和させる必要があるのです。
for he must attune these senses to work together as a unit in order to fulfill his true purpose in life.

そして。バイオリンが下品な音楽の演奏に使用されることもある一方、名演奏家の手になれば、魂をゆさぶるようなメロディーを生み出すことができるのと同じように、結果（現象）から”宇宙の因”にむきなおった感覚器官の知覚力は、迷いの泥沼から自身を教い出すでしょう。
And, just as the violin can be used to play baser music, yet it can, under a master's hand, produce melodies to thrill the souls of men - so the sense perceptions, turning from effect to Cosmic Cause, will extricate themselves from the mire of self-delusion.

このようにして感覚器官の知覚力は、各器官を通じて自動的にあらわしている古くさい考え方や習慣などを打ち破るでしょう。
They will in this way break old thought-patterns and habits which express automatically through the senses.

本来怠け者である”肉体の心”は、感覚器官たちがそれぞれの接触や体験によって作りあげてきた意見をそのまま受け入れるのであって、万象の背後にひそむ真の”因”の探究などをやろうとはしないのです。
Carnal mind, being innately lazy, accepts the opinions our senses have formed through their contacts and experiences, never bothering to search for the true Cause behind all effect.
