In olden times, teachers of philosophy demanded strict adherence to certain disciplines of body and mind before they would accept a pupil.

They did this because they knew that if a man could not control his sense mind and body-habits, he was not yet ready to receive higher instruction.

Some great teachers demanded a five-year period of absolute silence from the pupil before they would even consider the possibility of instructing him.

This may seem drastic to us today, yet it served a two-fold purpose.

The student learned self-control through not being able to participate in conversation around him;

and the enforced role of an impartial listener made it possible for him to study and evaluate both sides of every question.

We would do well to ponder this ancient requirement, and incorporate a little of it into our lives today.

Most of us are so busy imposing our opinions upon others, that we really do not listen to what they have to say.

While others are presenting their side of the subject, our minds are so busy marshalling our own arguments to prove them wrong, that we do not hear more than a fraction of what is being said.

So the great teachers of the past, comprehending that real development cannot come until man has disciplined himself, refused to waste either their time, or that of the pupil, where growth would be doubtful.

They understood that the Cosmic Law of Progression would in time inspire the person to realize the necessity of an honest evaluation of himself, and of his relationship to all creation.

He would then know that self-control was a prime requisite.

Telepathy is an expression of the Law;

which is as ageless as the Cosmos.

If man hopes to use it with understanding, he must recognize how imperative it is for him to practice selfdiscipline.

As long as he allows dissension to continue within himself, his receptivity will be confined to the level upon which his mind works.

The Laws of the Cosmos are immutable, and in time man will awaken to his potential;

for the only limitations placed upon man, are those his unawareness imposes.
