私たちが忘れてならないのは、よく均衡のとれた自由自在な境地にある人にとっては、想念すなわち意識的な知識は制限を知らないということです。

Why?

For the simple reason they are not in possession of all the facts relating to the earth.

Yet these facts exist as absolute frequency data!
この資料が存在しなかったら終局の結果を生み出す原因はないということになるでしょう。
For if they did not exist, there would be no cause to produce the eventual effect.
たとえば、米国太平洋沿岸に土地の大断層がありますが、これはアラスカからメキシコの先にまでおよんでいます。
For instance, geologists have discovered that a great earth fault lies along the Pacific coast of America, extending from Alaska to Mexico, and beyond.
種々の圧力がこの地帯に影響をおよぼしており、断層のまわりの土地はある凝集力を持っています。
Varying pressures are being exerted here, and the earth around the fault has a certain strength of cohesion;
しかし、現代の計測装置を利用しても正確に解明することはできません。
but accurate readings of this are not ascertainable by the use of present day instruments.
それで地質学者は地表のこの部分がときどき動いて地震を起こすようになっているのだということは知っていますけれども、真の状態については限られた知識しかないために、異変のおこる正確な日時を予知することはできませんし、またそれがどの程度のものかを知ることもできません。
So although geologists know that this portion of the earth's surface is destined to move from time to time, producing earthquakes, because of their limited knowledge of actual conditions they cannot predict a definite date for these disturbances, nor can they estimate the severity to be expected.
