テレパシーで波動を共鳴させる

いかなる物体にせよその基本的な波動は不変のものです。
The basic vibration of any form is a constant thing;

さもなければ細胞はかならずしもその種族を繁殖させないでしょう。
otherwise, the cell would not always reproduce its kind.

しかし印象を伝達する細胞の活動と能力に関するかぎり、相対的な、すなわち自然の状態にあっては無限です。
But so far as the cell's activity and capability of transmitting impressions is concerned, it is unlimited in a relative, or natural state.

私たちがテレパシーの研究で扱うのはこの相対的な活動なのです。
It is this relative activity with which we are dealing in the study of telepathy;

それは共鳴波動といってもよいでしょう。
and it may be referred to as the sympathetic vibration.

この共鳴波動は、正確に調子を合わせた二つのバイオリンを用いて証明することができます。
This sympathetic vibration can be demonstrated by using two violins exactly attuned.

一方のバイオリンの開放絃を弾きますと、他方のバイオリンの同じ音程の開放絃が共鳴します。
When we pluck the string of one, the other violin will respond in the same key.

同じような実験を普通のガラスコップで行なうことができますが、この場合は振動の範囲に御限があります。
A similar experiment may be performed with ordinary drinking glasses, but these are limited in their vibratory range.
