原子の警戒牲と知覚力

肉体の細胞はたえず変化しつつあるという事実を指摘する人があるかもしれません。
Some may point to the fact that the cells of the body are constantly changing.

それでは、細胞が自身の記憶を保つのはどうして可能なのでしょうか。
How, therefore, is it possible for them to retain their memory?

人間にあっては、花の苗床と同じように、同一の原子が新しい細胞を作っているにすぎないのです。
In man, as in the flower bed, the same atoms merely form new cells.

親和の法則、すなわち吸引と反発の作用が宇宙の基礎であることを忘れてはなりません。
Remember the law of affinity, the action of attracting and repelling, is the foundation of the universe.

そして完璧な構造から成るこの微小な原子は”母性原理”すなわち”物質”を通じて原子を存在せしめた”宇宙の英知”に素直に従っているのです。
And these tiny atoms, so complete in themselves, obey unquestioningly the Cosmic Intelligence which, through the Mother principle, Matter, has brought them into being.

原子は自分の正体を失うことはなく、それどころか形態物の新たな建設に参加することによって、さらに一つの体験を積みます。
They do not lose their individual identity, but rather, add one more experience through the new manifestation.

原子には警戒性または知覚性が与えられていて、自分のメッセージをフィーリングによって人間の心に刻みつけることができます。
Atoms are endowed with alertness or awareness, and through feeling, can impress their messages upon man's mind.

たとえば、私たちがさびしい道をぶらぶら歩いているか、またはにぎやかな街路上を急いでいるとします。
For instance, we may be strolling down a lonely road, or hurrying along a busy street;

”心”はそれ自身の”想念”でいっばいです。するとフィーリングによってだれかが自分を見つめているなと気づきます。
the mind occupied with its own thoughts when, through feeling, we become aware of someone staring at us.

しかし”触覚”が脳に警告を発するまでは、目はまだその人を見ませんし、うわのそらの心もその人の存在に気づきません。
As yet the eyes have not seen this person, nor was the preoccupied mind aware of his presence until feeling alerted the brain.

だれかにじっと見つめられているぞ、と”心”に警告したのは、相手の人から直接に放たれる想念に応えている肉体の細胞だったのです。
It was the cells of our body, responding to the directed thought from the other person, that alerted our mind to his fixed attention upon us.

どんな生き物の視線を浴びても、これと同じ警戒力が私たちの内部に起こるのです。
This same alertness can be awakened in us by the gaze of any living form.
