あなたが行なわねばならない第一段階は各感覚器官の訓練です。
Disciplining the senses is the first step you must take.

手足に自分を支配させてはならないのと同様に、感覚器官に自分を支配させてはなりません。
They should not master you any more than do the hands and the feet.

私たちの四肢はそれ自体の意志を突然に発達させ、独立した行動を起こすようにはなりません。
Our extremities do not suddenly develop a will of their own, and start acting independently.

それらは心から伝えられるメッセージに従っているのです。
They obey the messages from the mind.

視覚、聴覚、味覚、嗅覚などの各感覚器官は、あくまでも脳ヘ情報を送る伝達者にとどめるべきであって、
Our senses of sight, hearing, taste and smell should be nothing more than conveyors of information to the brain;

私たちの生活の独裁的な支配者にしてはいけません。
not the autocratic rulers of our lives.

それらを私たちの召使いとするべきで、主人にしてはいけないのです。
They should be our servants - not our masters.

この四つの感覚器官を調べてみますと、それらが生命体の組織の中でたえず自分の地位を高めようとして、自分の周囲に見る物すべてを軽視しているのがわかります。
As you study these four senses, you will find they continually exalt their position in the scheme of life, belittling all that they see about them.
