これがテレパシーとどのような関係にあるのでしょうか。
What has this to do with telepathy?
これは人間と肉体細胞のあいだまたは人間と自然のあいだに行なわれる一種のテレパシックな交信を説明するのにひじょうによい例になります。
It is a very good illustration explaining one phase of telepathic communion between man and the body cells, or man and nature.
次にあげる話も私が体験した実例です。
Following is another in which I was a participant.
ずっと以前、病気になった一人の知人が医師の診察を受けました。
A number of years ago an acquaintance who had been feeling unwell, consulted a doctor.
診断によれば彼女はひどい心臓病にかかって、歯もだいぶ悪いので、みな抜きとらなければなるまいということでした。
The doctor's diagnosis was that she was suffering from a serious heart condition, and that her teeth were so badly infected they would all have to be extracted.
当然、彼女はその診断をたいそう心配して
Naturally, she was very distressed by the diagnosis;
私のところヘ助言を求めにきました。
and came to discuss it with me, asking for advise.
心臓が弱ってそのうち止まるのではないか、歯はすでに治療のほどこしようのないほどに化膿しているのではないか、といった考えが彼女の心に深く根ざしていました。
The woman's mind had been deeply impressed with the idea that her heart might falter and stop at any minute, and that her teeth were ulcerated beyond medical help.
大切なのは、これらの考えは後女が私のところヘ相談にきたときに、心の中にまっ先に浮かんでいた想念であったという点です。
Remember, these were the thoughts she was holding uppermost in her mind when she consulted me.
しかし私が彼女の心臓から受けた明確な印象では、心臓に異常はない様子で、
Yet, I received a definite impression from the heart that the action of that organ was normal;
しかも口の細胞にごくわずかな変化だけがあることがわかりましたので、
and I could detect the presence of only a slight infection in the cells of the mouth.
「あなたの心臓には全然異常はありません。ただ歯ぐきに少し悪いところがありますが、それは適当な治療をすればすぐ治ります」と話してやりました。
Therefore, I informed her that her heart was perfectly normal, and there was nothing wrong with her teeth except for a slight infection of the gums, which could be eliminated with proper treatment.
私は目で見てこのことがわかったのではありません。医者ではないのでまったく医学的な診断をしたわけではないからです。
I did not acquire this information by visible means, for I am not a doctor and I made absolutely no physical examination.
その診察──それを診察というならば──は、彼女の肉体の細胞から私の心にたいする想念伝達の結果だったのです。
The diagnosis - if you wish to call it that - was the result of thought-transference from her body body cells to my mind.
しかしなおも疑念を持ったこの婦人は心臓病の専門家のところヘ行きましたが、この医師も私が心臓の細胞から受けた異常のない感じを確証しました。
This lady, still doubtful, went to a heart specialist who confirmed the impression of normal cardiac action I had received from the heart cells.
そこで彼女は歯科医を訪ねましたところ、歯ぐきの細胞から私が感じてすでにわかっていたことが、やはりまちがいないということになったのです。
She then visited a dentist, and the information I had received from the cells of her gums was substantiated;
というのは、エックス線写真を撮った結果、医師は彼女にその歯痛は数週間の治療で容易に治せると保証したからです。
for, after taking X-ray pictures, he assured her the infectious condition could easily be cured by a few weeks' treatment.
以上の事実から、想念は内部の肉体細胞から伝えられるのであって、その場合に意識的な想念として肉体の脳を通過する必要はないということがわかります。
This proves that thought can be transmitted from the body cells within a form, without the necessity of passing through the brain of the form as a conscious thought.
もし想念なるものが脳細胞の働きだけでつくられるとするならば、私には婦人の肉体内の様子がわかるはずがありません。
If thought could only be produced through action of the brain cells, this knowledge could never have been revealed to me;
なぜなら婦人の脳は「肉体的にひどい病気が起こっているのだ」という強烈な想念を放っていたからです。
for the woman's brain was broadcasting strong, frantic, thought-vibrations of serious disorder in the body.
