心を疲れさせないようにする

学者によって計画的なテレパシーの研究分野における実験が行なわれていたあいだ、どのグループにしてもあとで行なった実験よりも最初の実験のほうが的中の確率が高いという事実が判明しています。
During experiments conducted in the field of intentional telepathy by researchers, it has been found that the rate of accuracy in reception in any group is higher for the first series of tests than it is later.

学者たちはこれを心の疲れのせいにしていましたが、むしろ精神集中の疲れと説明するほうがもっと論理的でしょう。
They have attributed this to mental fatigue, but it might more logically be explained as concentration fatigue;

なぜなら、その疲れは一点すなわち一つの考えだけに強く注意を集中させることによって出てくるからです。
for it is produced by the enforced focusing of the attention upon one point, or idea.

そのような集中は潜在する体力の多大な消費を必要とするため、いかなる形式の精神集中にしても疲れを生じさせます。
Because it demands an increased expenditure of the potential body force, any form of concentration will produce fatigue.

細胞のエネルギーははなはだしく浪費されていて、この心の過労で引き起こされた細胞の緊張のために、細胞はエネルギーを放出するのと同じ速さでそれを補うことができません。
The energy of the cells is being dissipated at a very high rate, and due to their tenseness caused by this mental strain, they are not able to replenish their energy as fast as they are giving it out.

これが肉体内に不均衡な状態を生み出すのです。
This creates an unbalanced condition in the body.

私たち人間はこの法則の働きをあらわす生きた実例なのです。
We are living examples of this law in action.

現代の機械文明は労働力を節減する機械類をそなえていますので、それは人間自身と人間の住む宇宙をもっと理解できるようになるまでの余裕を私たちに与えてくれるはずですが、実際には一般人は機械の持つ速いテンポの奴隷となってしまっています。
Our modern mechanical age with its labor-saving devices, which should give us more time to become acquainted with ourselves and the universe in which we live, has enslaved the average person by the fast pace they now expect.

私たちは一心不乱に働き、食べ、眠り、遊んだりして、
We work, eat, sleep and play in a state of high concentration;

なぜ便秘、風邪、高血圧などにかかるのか、なぜ働きざかりに心臓病で急に死んだりするのだろうかなどといろいろ思いをめぐらします。
then wonder why we suffer from constipation, colds, high blood pressure, and drop dead with heart failure in the prime of life.

世界のいかなる医薬といえども、心が緊張しているかぎりは、肉体の小さな細胞を効果的に働かせることはできないのです。
All the medicine in the world cannot make the little cells of our bodies operate efficiently while our minds are under tension.
