人間とは何か
まず、人間とは何でしょう？
First ― What is a human being?
一つの結果である肉体を見ると、それが肉・骨・血液などから成っていることがわかります。
As we see the body which is an effect, we observe that it is composed of flesh, bone and liquid.
この点は他のほとんどの動物と大差はありません。
And not much different than most animal forms.
しかし人体を形成しているものは肉眼で見ることはできません。それは無数の細胞で成っているからです。
But that which makes up the form is never seen with the physical sight as it is made of myriads of cells.
各細胞は独立した存在ですが、一方共通の利益と人体の維持のために各細胞は他のすべての細胞と調和しています。
Each cell is independant yet it blends with all of the others for the common good and maintainance of the form.
ちょうど地球の四〇億以上の人間が人間界という一大家族を形成しているのと同様です。
Just as the three billion people of the earth make up the human family.
しかし人間は人生において果たすべき役割を教えられないために、混乱が生じています。
But because they have not been taught the part which they may play in life, disorder results.
この人間界の混乱は地球全体の秩序に比較すればまだ小さいほうです。
This disorder is minor compared to the total order on earth.
そうでないとすれば地球は大混乱状態になるでしょう。
For if it were not so the planet earth would be in a chaotic state.
そこでひとつ混乱の起こる原因を調べてみましょう。
So now we must try and learn the cause of disorder.
一般の人間は、それ自体が原因の結果であるエゴによって支配されている精神労働者です。
The average human is a mentalist governed by the ego which is itself an effect of the cause.
そして心が学習の過程にあるとき、それは（心は）他の物質的な結果（現象）にそれ自体を（心自体を）まかせたがるのです。しかも心が理解していない物事は多く存在しています。
And as the mind is in the process of learning it seeks to guide itself by other material effects and there are many things that it does not understand.
理解されない物は恐怖され、きらわれますが、
And the things that are not understood are feared and disliked.
各感覚器官（すなわちエゴの心）にとって楽しい物事は好まれます。
And the things that are pleasing to the senses (or ego mind) are liked.
しかしときとして好ましい物事は人間を進歩的な学習からさまたげる障壁となるのです。
Yet oftimes the likable things become blocks that prevent the individual from progressively learning.
生命は区別なしにあらゆる自然へみずからを貸していることがわれわれにはわかります。
We can observe that life lends itself to all nature without divisions.
そして人間の自由意志が生命の自然の表現から人間を分離してしまったように思われます。
And it seems that man's free will has separated him from his natural expression of life.
