三次元世界に住みながら四次元世界を知覚する

さて、心を、意識的な行為の観察者たる意識との関係のなかに置いてみることにしましょう。
Let us now place the mind in relationship to consciousness as an observer of conscious action.

これについては海岸を例にあげることができます。
And for this the shore of the ocean can be used as an example.

われわれは広大な水面をながめ渡すとき、そのなかに無数の生命体がいることを知っています。
For as we gaze out over the vast stretches of water we know that there is untold life within its body.

そこでわれわれは、センスマインド（感覚器官の心）が見ることのできない、海中深く起こっている活動について意識的に気づくようになる必要があります。
So let us become consciously aware of the activity that is taking place within its depths that the sense mind does not see.

いまやわれわれは印象を通じて多くの生きものを意識的に知覚するようになり、食物を求めて海底をあさり歩いている一粒の砂ほどの微小な生命体を見るようにしなければなりません。
We should now become consciously aware through impressions of the many active forms and see those as small as a grain of sand searching the bottom of the ocean for food.

そして海底から水面に至るあいだに同じことをやっている無数の種類の生命体を知覚しなければなりません。
And millions of kinds of form life from the bottom to the surface doing the same thing.

その生命体のなかには海底から上昇して水面付近の光を見ようとしないのもいますし、見ようとするのもいます。
Some never rise from the bottom to see the light near the surface, while others do.

他の動物にもいますが、クジラは海中の水圧や諸要素を制しています。というのは深海にもぐることもできれば、また水面上をも泳ぐこともできるし、地球を包んでいる空間からくる不可視のガスを吸うこともできるからです。
The whale, although there are others, masters the pressures and elements of the sea, for it is able to go to great depths yet it can swim on the surface of the water and partake of the invisible gases from space that enshroud the earth.

またそのガスの海の体験を求めて海水を離れるトビウオのようなものもいます。
And there are some like the flying fish that leave the liquids for an experience in the sea of gases.

こうしてこの動物たちは二つの異なる世界の体験を持つわけです。
Thus they have experience in two different kingdoms.

水という液体の世界と液体が作ったガスの世界です。
The liquid of the water and the gases of which the liquid it made.

人間も、同時に二つの異なる体験下で生きていることを知覚するようにならねばなりません。人間は三次元の地球上に住んでいながら、しかも四次元を頼りにしてその中で生きているからです。
Man should become aware of living two different experiences at the same time, for he is living on top of the earth of three dimensions, yet depending and living in the fourth dimension.

地殻から上方の空に向かってわれわれが空間と呼んでいる不可視の四次元の世界があるのです。
For from the crust of the earth towards the sky is the invisible fourth dimension which we call space.

人間は土地がなければ、水なくして生きられない魚と同様に生きることはできません。
Outside of it we could not live any more than the fish that cannot live out of the water.

形ある物は四次元の支持なくして生きることはできません。地上の生きものが生きて呼吸するのはわれわれが大気と呼んでいる空気なのです。
No form could live without the support of the fourth dimension for it is the air which we call atmosphere in which earth forms live and breath.

それがなければ万物は生きることができません。地球でさえも存在できません（訳注＝この場合、空気の満ちた大気圏そのものを四次元と言っているのではない）。
And if it were withdrawn no form could live, not even the earth.

人間の苦悩は四次元世界で始まります。
Man's troubles begin in the fourth dimension.

”感覚器官の心”としての人間は原因の結果である三次元世界で働いているからです。
For he as a sense mind operates in the three dimensions, an effect of the cause.

それゆえ人間は結果の世界に多くの時間を与えていて、それを（結果の世界を）かなりよく理解しています。
So he gives much time to the world of effects and understands it fairly well.

しかし人間は自己の周囲の不可視の世界と自分の住んでいる世界とを結びつけようとしてひどく苦しんでいます。
But he has trouble associating the invisible world around him with the world in which he lives.

そして四次元を理解しようとして意識のかわりに心を用いながら混乱しています。
And when he uses his mind instead of his consciousness to try and understand the fourth dimension, he becomes confused.

そして原因であるところの不可視の四次元世界に存在するあまりに大きな相違のために、長いあいだ三次元世界で教えられたように四次元世界を理解するのは困難になっています。
And the great difference which exists in the invisible fourth dimension which is cause, makes it still harder for him to understand, as he has been taught in the three dimensions for centuries.

古代人でさえも四次元を理解しませんでした。もし理解していたなら天と地、原因と結果というふうに分類しなかったでしょう。
Even the ancients did not understand the fourth dimension, for had they done so they would not have divided heaven and earth. Or cause and effect.

時間の始まり以来、人間は自分と同じような三次元の具体的事実を望もうとして自分を訓練してきました。
Since the beginning of time man has schooled himself to want concrete, facts which are three dimensional like himself.

四次元を神秘と空論にしてしまったのです。
He left the fourth dimension to mysteries and theories.

わずかにあちこちで一個人があらゆる次元の関連点を見ることができただけです。
And only here and there an individual could see the relationship of all dimensions.

そして本人がその体験の分析結果を表明しようとするとほとんどだれも相手にしないのが普通です。
And when he would express his analysis he usually had very few followers.

一例としてイエスは四次元を説明しようとしましたが、現在でさえも彼の教えは理解されていません。
Jesus for one tried to explain the fourth dimension, but even today his teachings are not understood.

その結果、今後理解されるだろうという望みのもとに四次元は生命の抽象的な側に置かれてしまったのです。
As a result the fourth dimension has been placed in the abstract side of life with the hope that it will be understood in the here-after.

しかし人間はいまここでそれを理解しなければこれから先それを理解できる機会はないでしょう。
But how could one ever understand if he did not have some comprehension of it here?

人間は次にとるべき段階を知ってからその動機を理解できるのです。
One must learn the next step to be taken before he can understand the reason for it.

時間という財産は、未来が安定する前に持たねばならない”理解力”ほどに大きなものではありません。
The wealth of time could not be as great as an understanding that man must have before his future is secure.

理解力がなければ、われわれの宇宙の兄弟（他の惑星の人々）が有している知識を地球人が持つことは望み得ないからです。
For without it he cannot hope to have the knowledge that our space brothers have.

人間は三次元世界について多くを学んできました。いまこそその知識を周囲の四次元の不可視な世界と結びつけるときです。
Man has learned much about the three dimensional world and now it is time for him to blend his knowledge with the four dimensional invisible world around him.

ただし人間がずっと支配されてきたもろもろの神秘を捨ててしまおうとすればです。
That is if he is to do away with the mysteries that he has been governed by all of this time.

このことは、結果である心を原因である意識にたいして謙虚にさせることによって達成されるのであり、こうして両者の関係を意識に説明させることになります。
And this can only be done by the mind, the effect, humbling itself to the consciousness ― the cause, and thus allow it to explain the relationship of the two.

意識は限界を知らない四次元であるので、意識のみがこれをなし得るのです。
Only consciousness can do this as it is the fourth dimension that knows no limitations.
