印象の受信の仕方

また一時に感受する印象または映像は、ある事柄のほんの一部にすぎないことを常に記憶することが肝要です。
You must remember at all times that only a little of the entire picture will be revealed at a time.

これははめ絵と同様であって、切られた個々の部分のすべてを見ることや、それらがどこにあてはまるかを知ることはできません。

そうすれば、どれがこの世の蓄積された知識で、どれが宇宙的印象なのかがわかるでしょう。また、地上からも多くの印象がくるでしょう。

心が慣れ親しんでいるこれらの地上の印象の多くは宇宙的性質を帯びているのもあり、それがある場合にはイメージに合っているかもしれませんが、たぶんそのときは本当にイメージに合っていないこともありますので、迷わないようにすることです。
Do not be confused for earthly impressions may come also, as many of these to which the mind is accustomed are of Cosmic Nature and may fit into the picture at a given point but perhaps not at present.

地上の体験を持っているために、こうした印象は落ち着く場所がないままに先を争って各自の場所を得ようとします（訳注＝何ら価値のない地上からの印象を宇宙的価値あるものと思い込んで本人がいとも容易に受け入れるの意）。
Due to earthly experiences these ideas sometimes try to crowd into positions before there is a place for them.

これは画家が黄色を用いなければならないときに赤色を使うほうがよいという印象を得るようなものです。
It is like an artist who gets an impression of red shading, when yellow should be used, with the red to follow.

ある場合には印象は静かな小さな声のようにやってくることがあります。するとあなたはだれかが自分に話しかけているのだと思うでしょうが、それはあなたの意識がわれわれの慣れ親しんでいる言葉でもって物事を説明しているのです。
Impressions will come in some cases like a still small voice and you will swear that someone is talking to you, but it is your consciousness explaining things in words you are accustomed to.

またときには言葉でどのように表現してよいかわからないような印象がくることもあります。
And sometimes with impressions that you cannot find words to express.

しかし遠方の光景を透視する場合は──特にそれがカラーであるとき──それはあなたの前額部の中にある心のスクリーン上に意識によってピントが合わされます。
But when pictures are impressed upon you, especially in color, they are focused by the consciousness on the screen of your mind which is located in your forehead.

Where divisions between the two cease to exist.

そのとき人間は”完全人”となるのです。
For then man becomes a total man.

あなたは心が通常促進したがる希望的観測（訳注＝こうあって欲しいという非現実的な欲求）
One must be very careful to avoid wishful thinking which the mind usually likes to promote.

や、より好みによる空想などを注意深く避けねばなりません。
Or imagination which the mind likes to promote in its own favor.

というのは空想は一つの印象に二種の面があるような考え方を促進するからです。
For the imagination does promote pictures as there are two phases of impressions.

空想を好む心は気まぐれな事をしたがります。たとえば二つの顔を持った人間の頭を作ったりします。
The imaginative mind likes to create freeks such as constructing a man's head with two faces.

一つの顔は正面にあり、他の一つは裏面にあるのですが、”自然”はこんな頭を作ったりしません。
One in the back and one in the front, but nature does not construct a head like this.

私がこのように言うのは意識を通じてやってくる印象や映像は空想と密接に結びつけられやすいからです。
I mention this for the impressions and pictures that will come through consciousness will be closely related to imagination.

この点においては心はまったくの専門家です。心は意識から行為をコピーしているからです。
And the mind is quite an expert at this, for it has copied its action from consciousness.

ニセモノが現れる前にまずホンモノがなければなりません。空想が働く場合は特に右の二つを混同しやすいので、注意しなければならないというわけです。

たとえ異星人が地球へ来ないで、また人間は宇宙旅行ができるのだということを教えてくれなかったとしても、地球人は意識から与えられる印象類に従うことによって早晩宇宙旅行に成功するでしょう。
Even though the space people had not come our way, showing that man can travel space, we would have succeeded in doing this sooner or later, accomplished by following the impressions given by consciousness.

人間のゴールは自分の心を意識に融合させることにあるからです。
For man's goal is to blend his mind with consciousness.

ここにおいてあなたの推理力が必要とされます。印象類の一つの面は気まぐれな空想に従い、破壊的ですけれども一方、他の面は精力的で建設的です。
At this point your reasoning facilities may enter for one phase of impressions follows the freakish imagination and is destructive, while the other is exhausting and constructive.

だから真の評価に達するためには建設的な推理がなされねばなりません。
So then constructive logic must be employed in order to reach a true evaluation.

あなたが何かについて真相を知ろうと思えば、自分の個人的意見と無関係になる必要があります。
And this must be independent of personal opinions if you are to know the truth about anything.

このことは日常生活において他人とともに生きたり働いたりする場合の良策です。
This is a good policy to follow in living and working with others in every day life.
