現象が生じた理由の分析

そこでわれわれはこれまで心がやってきたように、結果を究極の解答とみなさないように、各感覚器官から成り立っている心をまず調整する必要があります。
So we must first ― condition the mind which is made up of the senses to not accept the effects as the ultimate answer as it has been doing.

つまり何らかの結論に達するまでに結果（現象）の生じた理由を忍耐強く分析するとよいのです。
But patiently analyze the reason for the effect before coming to any conclusion.

それが自我に関連した個人的な結果であろうが他人または他の生命体であろうが何らの差はありません。
It should not make any difference whether it be a personal effect related to one's self, or another person or form of life.

一例として樹木をとりあげて、それの生きる目的を分析してみましょう。
As an example we will use the form of a tree and analyze its purpose.

その結果（樹木）を観察しますとそれは生きた木として、また何かを作るための材料として多くの面で役だっていることがわかります。
As we observe the effect we find that its services are many, both as a living tree and the products that can be made from it.

多くの有用な品物はその幹を切った木材で作られますし、葉を落とすことによって地面を肥沃にします。
For many useful things are made from the wood of its trunk and it fertilizes the earth by dropping its leaves.

しかし人間は樹木から放射されているエネルギーすなわち生命力を見ません。その生命力がなければ、処女林地帯に見出されるような清浄な空気は存在しなくなるでしょう。
But we do not see the energy or life force which eminates from it and without which we would not have the pure air which is found in virgin forests.

樹木は炭酸ガスを、生命にとって基本的な必要物である酸素に変えます。
For it transmutes monoxide gas to oxygen which is essential to life.

そしてあらゆる植物はこの作業で役立っているのです。
And all plant life serves in this field.

樹木という結果（現象）を観察しますと、樹木を生き物にしている、幹の中を流れているいわゆる樹液と呼ばれている液体すなわち生命の血液はわれわれには見えません。
In observing the effect of forms we do not see the liquids or life blood, which we call sap in the tree, which flows through it making it a living thing.

また地中深くはっている根や、地中からエネルギー源を自分たちの中に吸い上げるときに根が果たしている役割を見ることはできません。
Nor do we see the roots in the depths of the earth and the work that they do in drawing energy from the earth unto themselves.

また樹木を形成している細胞群は樹木の目的の遂行の方向へそれを（樹木を）導いていて、そのとき各細胞は樹木同士を互いに話させているのですが、その話し声を聞きません。
Nor do we hear the molecules that make the form speak to each other in guiding it to the fulfillment of its purpose.

これらは結果の奥にある”原因”と呼ばれてよいでしょう。
This could be called the cause behind the effect.
