意識とは万物の創造主
意識とは何でしょう？
What is consciousness?
それは万物の創造主である生命力であるという以外に、だれも的確に知っていません。
No one definitely knows except that it is a life force that is the creator of all forms.
意識がなければ人間は生きものとはならないであろうからです。
For without consciousness man would not be a living being.
そして人間においては、それは言葉で現すのに最上の表現は、”警戒”（または注意）の状態”といえます。
And in man the best way that we can describe it is ― a state of alertness.
警戒の状態とはフィーリング（感じること）または知覚の状態です。
And a state of alertness is a state of feeling or awareness.
動物においては音響に頼る必要のない”本能”として知られています。
In the animal it is known as instinct which does not have to depend upon sound.
意識という言葉は、人間がまだ体験しない物事について意識的になる場合に感じるところの創造主の言葉です。
The language of consciousness is the language of the Creator that one feels when he becomes conscious of things not yet experienced.
イエスは次の言葉でそれを表現しています。「見たり聞いたりしないで信ずる者は幸いである。
Jesus expressed it in these words ― Blessed are those who see and hear not yet believe.
その者は天国へ入るだろう」
For they shall enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
この天国というのは”因”の領域で、意識すなわち永遠の生命の海を表すために用いられた言葉です。
And the kingdom of heaven was used in reference to the realm of Cause, a sea of consciousness or everlasting life.
意識があらゆる現象を生ぜしめているからです。
For consciousness proceeds all manifestation.
われわれは未加工のダイヤモンドのようなものです。
You see we are like a diamond in the rough.
のちになってダイヤモンドと判明する物質を誰かが最初に見つけたとき、本人は肉眼で一個の石ころを見るのですが、そのとき本人の内部の何者かが「この石ころは他の石ころと違うのだ」と語りかけます。
When man first found the substance that turned out to be a diamond, he saw a rock through his physical sense of sight but something inside of him told him that this rock was different from others.
もしそれをカットして磨くならば、それはこれまで見たこともないほどの美しい者になるという事実を本人に気づかせるのは本人の意識なのであって心ではありません。
It was his consciousness and not his mind that alerted him to the fact that if he would cut and polish it, it would be the most beautiful thing that he had ever seen.
ところで、そのダイヤは考えられるかぎりのあらゆる色を放射するでしょうが、
Radiating every color conceivable.
そのようになるためには忍耐と多くの困難な作業とを必要とします。鋭利な刃でカットされると、ときには苦痛さえ感じるでしょう。
But this result would require patience and a lot of hard work, even pain at times when cut by the sharp edges.
これと同様にあらゆる人間は未加工のダイヤのようなものであって、自己の純粋さを見い出すまでに削りとらねばならないゴツゴツした多くのでこぼこがあります。
Every man is a diamond in the rough and there are many rough edges that must be removed before he can see the purity of himself.
これは楽な作業ではありません。大抵の場合、でこぼこを削りとるたびに何らかの苦痛を伴います。
This is not a pleasant process for each removal, in most cases, will cause a pain of one kind or another.
しかし多くの苦痛に耐えることができればそれほど石はますます立派になるのです。
But the more pain he is able to endure ― the finer the stone will be.
完全なダイヤはその表面にカットされた各面から純粋な光を反射します。そしてもし宇宙的な波動が完全に表現されればそこには欠点というものはあり得ません。
A perfect diamond will reflect pure light from each facet that is cut upon it, and there can be no imperfections if the cosmic frequencies are to manifest in full.
生活のあらゆる分野の過去と現在の教えに関するわれわれの思考の習慣は、この削りとらねばならない粗いキズのようなものです。
Our habits of thinking in relation to past and present teachings in all fields of life are the rough spots that must be removed.
なかには他の部分よりも除くのが困難な部分もあるでしょうが、目的を持った決意は望ましい結果をもたらすでしょう。
Some will be harder to remove than others, but determination of purpose will bring the desired results.
するとやがて光沢、すなわち最初はたぶん容易でも楽しくもないような新しい習慣が確立されることになります。
Then will come the polishing or establishing of new habits which perhaps will not be easy or pleasant at first.
そしてこのすべてが成しとげられるとき、人間として知られている形態を通じて神の栄光が現れるのです。
But when all of this is accomplished the Glory of God will manifest through the form once known as man.
ころがる石にはコケがつかないと言われてきました。
It has been said that a rolling stone gathers no moss.
しかも人間の物質の蓄積にたとえて引用されるコケは、人間が宇宙的な英知を持って成長していくのをさまたげています。
But moss used in reference to man's accumulation of things has detered his growth in cosmic intelligence.
むしろころがる人間は他の石（諸問題）に打ちあたることによって磨かれ、こうしてでこぼこがとれるのです。
But the rolling one becomes polished by striking problems or other rocks and thus the debris is removed.
